Changes can be scary but good

December 2023

It seems like the last couple years have flown by.  It’s been kind of a rush; a lot has happened.  We’ve experienced deaths, disruptions, changes, and more.

One of the most significant changes was Jordan’s move to Colorado.  Everyone always asks: Did she move for a guy or a job?  Nope.  Neither.  There was a guy, but that ended before she left.  She simply got tired of California.  Before leaving, she made sure to have her ducks in a row.  She learned to drive—and drove about halfway there.  She lined up a job.  She found an apartment.  Little did we know that everything was going to go sideways.

Originally, I had planned to editorialize the happenings since Jordan has moved.  I’m not going to do that.  Instead, I’ll try to summarize with bullet points.

  • On the way to Colorado, Jordan and I spun out in her PT Cruiser, completely totaling it in the process.  Wonderful.  Now she was going to be in Colorado with no vehicle.  It was a pretty crazy accident where we spun across the freeway and ended up backward on the inside of the guardrail, up on boulders (not rocks).  It looked bad.  Like, really bad.  Luckily, no one was injured and we continued on our way the next day.
    • Shortly after moving, she bought a Subaru; a much better car for the climate.  Unfortunately, that car didn’t last long, and she ended up buying a Cadillac SRX.  That car seems to be working out okay.
  • After living with a roommate that she didn’t know for a few months, things got hot and eventually ended up in Jordan basically kicking her out in favor of a different roommate.  That, too, ended badly, but on good terms.
    • At the end of this year, she’s moving once again.  Same complex, different apartment.  This time, she’s living alone.
  • She actually ‘quit’ her job just to return to Target before her last day.
    • After months of work frustration, she applied for and accepted a management position!  I’m so proud of her.
  • After struggling for a few months, she began to get frustrated and seriously considered moving back to California.

Oh, how they’ve grown and changed.

The last few years have seen this family endure some significant changes.  Between my health, my husband’s health, my children’s mental health, jobs gained and lost, and friends and family gained and lost, we’ve been trying to take everything in stride by applying our (sometimes dark) sense of humor.

After finally getting herself fully settled, we took some time to drive out to visit her for Christmas.  We had a great visit and plan to repeat the trip this year.  Eventually, we plan to move to Colorado.  We absolutely fell in love with the area.
